Located on the southern slope of the island, Alajeró is a municipality dominated by plains and cereal and grazing lands. The main town, of the same name, receives the visitor between its narrow streets, its stone houses and the friendliness of its people. With well-cultivated orchards and a multitude of paths that take us to the different hamlets that dot its territory: Imada, Arguayoda, Agalán or El Paso.
From its heritage, apart from its well-maintained domestic architecture, it highlights its church of El Salvador (17th century), a beautiful example of architectural classicism where the Crucified Christ (16th century) stands out, one of the oldest sculptures on the island of La Gomera
Going down its ravines, connected by well-marked trails, allows you to stop in time and contemplate how the island was many years ago, with small groups of stone houses and a very characteristic endemic vegetation, populated by herds and well-structured terraces that made Alajeró was known as land of bread and pantry of the island.
Next to the sea, the population of Playa de Santiago stands out, a fishermen''s nucleus and an incipient tourist spot, with lodging complexes and good restaurants where you can enjoy the delights of the sea, fresh from its natural bay at the table.
It cannot be forgotten that Alajeró has interesting samples of traditional culture, as can be seen in the festivities that gather thousands of gomeros and visitors every year, highlighting the El Paso festivities in September, the pilgrimage by the sea of ​​Tapahuga in August or the traditional celebrations of Santiago in the month of July.
